Long time no see

So, here am I again lamenting about how lazy my blogging habits are. My latest excuse is that most of the time I have nothing to say. So, today I have some things to say about a book I am currently reading.

Under the Dome by Stephen King

I am usually pretty good about keeping up with book related news, but I admit I have had my head in the sand lately and have not kept up with new releases. I've been learning to knit, and have totally absorbed myself in knitting and neglected my books. So, I was a little surprised to learn that Under the Dome was out already. I also had no idea of the massive-ness of this book, so was appropriately shocked when I saw it in the bookstore. I laid aside my knitting to delve into this heavy volume, and must admit I am somewhat disappointed at this stage.

I am approximately 200 pages into the book. Although it is by no means a bad story (I don't think King is capable of such a thing), I don't find myself compelled to continue reading. I am curious of course, but at this point I feel nothing but irritation at what is happening. I am disgusted by some of the characters, although I suspect this is the intended reaction. And, in true King fashion, the most terrible of the characters is depressingly real. Maybe that's why I am so irritated by these people; they are true-to-life depictions of humanity. I still have a long way to go, so I'm sure there are some surprises and retribution and all that. Truth be told, however, I had higher expectations for this book. I expected to be pulled in and trapped against my will.

I'll post more as I progress further.
